State Representative - Pennsylvania's 151st District
About Rick
Rick Taylor was raised in Minnesota on the progressive politics that gave the U.S. Hubert H. Humphrey and Paul Wellstone. In fact, he had the great honor of interning as a constituent advocate for the late Senator Wellstone who taught him that government was about doing right by “the little feller”. He truly believes government can do profound good if the peoples’ representatives are passionate, caring and hard working.
As the son of a single mother who worked hard to make ends meet, Rick knows education and government’s support of it are the key to our children’s, our and our country’s future. Without the Pell Grant and student loans previous progressive governments had the foresight to invest in, he would not have been able to earn a Masters degree from Cornell University. Everyone’s child deserves that same opportunity. However, he worries current short-sighted government officials are removing these chances by cutting investments in our children at the same time costs are rising.
Rick was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2006 and has been ardently fighting for and advocating on behalf of his constituency.
In his first term, Rick has authored several bills designed to benefit the citizens of Pennsylavania: legislation preventing the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) Willow Grove from becoming a civilian or commercial airport; legislation making college to be more affordable for students and families by increasing funding for the Dual Enrollment Program; legislation protecting children by strengthening Megan’s Law in Pennsylvania: and legislation protecting and allocating funding for The Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act (HSCA).
Rick is a member of the House Finance, Children and Youth, Insurance, and Aging and Adult Services Committees. House Speaker Dennis O’Brien appointed him as a Commissioner for the PA Historical and Museum Commission. He serves on the Budget and Revenue Committee for the National Conference of State Legislators. In addition, Rick has served as a delegate for the American Council of Young Political Leaders.
